Mining, exploitation and coca leaves

Centuries before the Europeans colonized South America, the indigenous people were aware of the healthy qualities of coca leaves. When the colonizers arrived, the indigenous people were forced to do the hard work in the mines. But chewing coca leaves gave them energy and power 👊🏽

As many miners lost their lives in the mine, they refer to the Cerro Rico mine in Bolivia: ‘The mountain that eats men’. Well, thank the gods and pachamama that the miners have coca.
